Basics of Mechanical Testing

Evaluation of static properties

tensile, compression, flexural and torsion

When we test any material—metal, polymer, ceramic, or composite—we want to know how it responds to applied forces. The most common way to do this is by studying the stress–strain curve, which reveals key properties like proportional limit, yield strength, and ultimate load under different types of loading: tension, compression, flexure, and torsion.
